- My first cookbook came from scholastic. I still make the raisin sugar cookies for my dad. I grew up reading Calvin Trillin's food writing then moved on to MFK Fisher and Laurie Colwin. We ate family dinner just about every night and my mom loved to throw parties. We watched Julia Child. The week I declared myself a writing major I got my first restaurant job. Twenty years later finds me going to nursing school with the ultimate goal of becoming a certified nurse midwife. I have two cats, Reno 'Bops' Mcgee and Frankie Blue Bird, and two fish, Max the betta and Rat the cory catfish. We live in a funny little bird house and this is the story of our lives.
